Lyrica

If the title sounds like the words to a song, well, Lyrica® may just be sending Pfizer Inc. singing their way to the bank once more. The FDA has just approved Pregabalin AKA Lyrica® as a treatment for fibromyalgia (FM) and has released on their website an article about it named: “Living with Fibromyalgia”. How about “Living WITHOUT fibromyalgia”.

Now, I have my own theory regarding fibromyalgia, and I’ll write about it soon. But how is it that a drug that has been approved for treating seizures, pain from shingles and pain associated with diabetes nerve damage has now become the first drug to treat fibromyalgia?

Let The Words of My Mouth…

To expand on my previous post on “Three environments”, I will share some thoughts about the words we speak and their effect on our wellbeing.

This topic hit home to me a few years ago while trying to lose some weight. I felt the overall girth around my waste was increasing at an alarming rate. I went on an heavy regime of sit ups and other calisthenics and even cut down visits to my altar of libation.  however, all my efforts were to no avail.

The Three Environments

I base my entire practice on the idea that the human body wants to gravitate towards a state of good health. Male, female, rich, poor, black, white. It makes no difference. Good health is the heritage for all mankind.

If the above is true, then how come there are so many people sick? I don’t know. No doubt some folks have just been dealt a bad deck of cards. I know that does not sound good in light of my opening statement. What else can I say?

But the majority of sicknesses can be reversed and conquered. Of this I have no doubt and what is necessary is to create an environment upon which the body can thrive. In fact, I’ve come to identify three environments that need to be present in order to cultivate and maintain good health.

Tai Chi “The Software”

It has now been over two decades since I first started my study and practice of tai chi.. Many of those years were under the guidance of my teachers. But a large portion of this time span has been self-study along with self-correction.

This path of self-study, is challenging and risky to say the least.  The enthusiasm to continue daily practice at the absence of peer support from classmates can and often wanes over time. Maintaining one’s practice stimulated is a task few accomplish after instruction from a teacher ceases. There is also the risk that one continues to practice incorrectly and over time develop habits not easy to break.

To Walk Or Not To Walk

image I love St. Augustine.. Although We’ve only been here for six years, I feel like we’ve lived here forever. In fact, our little Ancient City is sister city to a lovely place in my country, Cartagena, Colombia.
There’s so much to appreciate about this place.

But I do have one serious complaint. Drivers in St. Aug. are amongst the most inconsiderate drivers of any city I’ve ever lived in. This includes Chicago, Vegas, Wilmington, Miami, St. Pete, Springfield, MO.
