I was looking through one of my “junk” folders and came across a picture that brought pleasant memories. It was around August of 1996 when a dear fellow taichi player asked if I wanted to volunteer to a Stand Down. At that time, I had no idea what a “Stand Down” was but it really didn’t matter so I agreed.
Turns out, that a “Stand Down” is a three day weekend organized by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ and it was to become one of the most memorable days in my life…

Beautiful day here in the oldest city, St Augustine… It’s Sunday morning, Memorial Day weekend..Went to the beach early for some time alone.
Soon after getting there, I realized I had left my cell phone at home.. ‘Oh no’, I thought, ‘how will they be able to contact me?’ The thought of not being in “contact” status, frightened me.. After all, if something happens to a family member, I want to know about it and be reachable.. Or if friends need me, well I want to be reached..
But, then again, is it really that important?
